Dreaming With Paper. Art by Jackie Huang.
Today's post is a very special one and will feature the work of artist Jack Huang. I genuienly appreciate Ms. Huang for allowing me to share these images of her artwork with you today. Included here along with the photos from JackieHuang.com, I will be sharing a Q & A interview I did with Ms. Huang. I can't say enough nice things about how helpful Jackie was in putting together today's post. I appreiate the time she spent answering these questions for me as I know she is very busy with her artwork. Jackie Huang has been making waves in the art community for some time and her recent work with The Walt Disney Company has added some serious momentum to her career. I won't be able to include any of the work she has done for Disney for licensing reasons but I highly recommend that you head over to her Instagram and browse the Disney images she has shared on this account.

1 Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and your artwork?
I first got my start as an artist when I was about five – probably before then. But one of my earliest memories was my mom teaching me to ‘color in the lines’ to a coloring book. I knew at that moment I was going to be an artist and told just about anyone who ever asked me “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I can proudly say, I’ve never waivered and today I am an artist.
2 How did you get started? And what inspires you to create?
I first got involved with paper by taking a side class at Art Center called Paper-Engineering. It sounded like fun and apparently I took like a fish to water. One of my figure drawing teachers said it was probably because I was always over analytical. He said, at some point, art is about feeling and I just wasn’t getting there because my brain won’t stop following the ‘rules’ of making a good drawing. But when it came to my paper art (in all forms) the structural elements are just as important as the illustrative ones. So something in there just clicked and I began to understand shape design, color schemes, etc. all much better.
3 Do you remember your first sale and what it felt like?Hmm...I started an Etsy store when I was still in school, so I think my first sale was through that! But honestly, I don't really remember.
4 What's the coolest experience you have had as a professional artist?
It's also amazing to know that some of my artwork has literally changed people's lives (like when I do pop-up proposal books)! It warms my heart when I hear stories about how my artwork elicits emotions in others. When they feel what I felt when creating a piece it means I've done my job well.
5 Of everything you have created so far, what item has been your favorite and why? There are lots pf pieces I've created that have been milestones for me. But I think my favorite is the "Love Birds" piece I've made because it was inspired by my husband. The idea came to me the night we just went engagement ring shopping. As we left the store it started to drizzle a little but it didn't matter because I was feeling all warm and fuzzy on the inside. That's what I tried to capture in the piece and I think people sense it.
6 What are you currently working on and what are your plans for the future?
Top secret stuff.
Hopefully cool!
7 Do you sell on any other websites or in person? Yup! I have an Etsy Store (https://www.etsy.com/shop/ jackiehuang) and I do a couple conventions a year (http://jackiehuang.com/event- exhibits/)
8 What role does social media play when it comes to your artwork? It's a way for any interested fans to see what I'm working on and to let people know what's coming up next.
9 What’s the best way for people to contact you?My website's contact page!
10 Do you have a favorite quote?
There are so many! I think my top three are:
- "Love what you do and do what you love" - Ray Bradbury
-"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney
- "Love what you do. Get good at it. Competence is a rare commodity in this day and age. And let the chips fall where they may." - Jon Stewart
11 Anything else that you would like to add?- "Love what you do and do what you love" - Ray Bradbury
-"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney
- "Love what you do. Get good at it. Competence is a rare commodity in this day and age. And let the chips fall where they may." - Jon Stewart
Thanks for taking the time to find out stuff about me!
Best,
Jackie
