Michael Giaimo - Background Art Superstar. You Might Know His Work On Pocahontas & Frozen But I Bet You Missed One....

Michael Giaimo - Disney's Champion of Background Art

Did you know that Mike Giaimo did the incredible background art that was used in 2004's "Home on the Range"?

Did you know that "Home on the Range" had incredible artwork in it?

It's okay if you missed it because the movie as a whole was pretty much forgettable.  The one thing worth holding onto to as far as the legacy of this film goes would be the work done by Mike Giaimo as a background artist.  I respect him for putting out work of this quality despite the fact that these were tough times at Disney Animation.  I think it's important though to appreciate these backgrounds on their own.

They have a multi-layered scenery that kind of reminds me of an Eyvind Earle Christmas card for some reason.  The dramatic color palettes Giaimo uses are simply breathtaking and it's too bad the rest of the film just isn't that special.

Just in case you forgot or don't know me at all, Mike Giaimo was the Art Director for Pocahontas where he gets credit for these stunning shots.  They happen to be some of my favorite Disney backgrounds of all time.

Disney Pin Unboxing - Alice In Wonderland Mystery Pin Collection - First Time Buying Pins Online! (Mary Blair Inspired Pin Set)

Disney Pin Unboxing -
Alice In Wonderland Mystery Pin Collection
(Mary Blair Inspired Pin Set)

Hello!  I was actually a little more excited about this unboxing than I thought I would be.  It's probably because it's the Mary Blair inspired pin set.  I'm also happy that buying online for the first time has worked out well.  I mostly collect pins with my nieces but this Alice in Wonderland Mystery set is one that I could totally see myself doing with or without the kiddos.

It's an 8 pin set that includes Alice, The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, Queen of Hearts, Caterpillar, The March Hare, and Tweedle Dee/Tweedle Dum.   We originally purchased 4 boxes at Disney World at the cost of $14.99 each and got 8 pins total.  Our 8 pins included everyone except Alice.  What we got instead was an extra Queen of Hearts.  I reluctantly bought box number 5 at Disney World and got more doubles we didn't need.  After that I gave up and wasn't spending anymore on the set.

The incomplete set is all it's incompleteness.

I decided to go online to see if I could complete the set even though I do not generally buy pins any place besides Disney.  I found an eBay seller who had an almost 100% feedback score with over 5000 sales so I took a chance and bought 4 of the Alice in Wonderland Mystery boxes from this seller.  (I also purchased 3 Tsum Tsum mystery bags but that post is coming later!)

About 3 days later, all my stuff came in the mail!
I had to wait until today when I had everybody with me to open them though.

Out of 8 pins, one has to be Alice, right?

YESSS!  The first one we opened had an Alice pin in it!  Why did I buy 4?

The rest of the sets included another Alice/Cheshire combo.

Queen of Hearts and White Rabbit.

Alice and Cheshire Cat

Mad Hatter and Tweedle Dee/Tweedle Dum

Everything I go online from disney-life

The whole set completed!

March Hare from before.

Ta-da!

Thank you to disney-life on eBay!
I couldn't be more happy with the pins.
